About: With Jeff Conner helming Alcon’s nascent publishing division, 2018 saw a co-publishing alliance forged with London-based Titan Entertainment for the creation and distribution of new comics, graphic novels, artbooks, and genre fiction. The first project of the Alcon/Titan partnership came in 2019 with the debut of Blade Runner 2019, a 12-issue comic book series featuring new stories and characters from within the Blade Runner world. A critical success, the series continued with Blade Runner 2029, another 12-issue mega-story, which was voted Best Licensed Comic of 2021. The three-part epic is currently concluding with Blade Runner 2039, with the same core creative team onboard for the entire series, producing over 800 pages of Blade Runner goodness. Another 12-issue series, Blade Runner: Origins, debuted in 2021, which is set in the Blade Runner timeline of 2009, and shows the events behind the founding of the LAPD’s Blade Runner division. Completing the lineup of new Blade Runner titles is Blade Runner: Black Lotus; set in 2032, the series is a direct continuation of the storyline that began in the 2021 anime series of the same name released by Adult Swim and Crunchyroll.
Four coffee table artbooks have been produced so far, the first being Blade Runner 2049 Interlinked - The Art, a companion piece to Art & Soul of Blade Runner 2049, an artbook first published by Alcon with production by NECA in 2017. This was followed by Blade Runner 2049: The Storyboards, and The Art of Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Coming full circle, 2023 saw the release of The Art & Soul of Blade Runner 2049 – Revised & Expanded Edition, now published with Titan, and featuring updated text and 24 pages of new content that didn’t make it into the previous edition. Also, The Art & Making of The Expanse was issued in 2019, a lavish look at the creation of the now-iconic series.
Alcon Publishing’s fiction line launched in 2023 with John Shirley’s SUBORBITAL 7, a new future military thriller set in low Earth orbit. 2023 also saw the release of Cody Goodfellow’s VERTICAL, an action drama set in the death-defying world of UrbEx (urban exploration). This will be followed in March 2024 by Thomas Krug’s PHAROAH’S GOLD, an historical crime yarn set in 701 BC during the siege of Jerusalem.
